A masterpiece of Kyusu by Konishi Kenji (Yusen II), the son of the founder of Yusen kiln (友 仙 窯) which is the one of the best known masters of pottery in Tokoname.
The beautiful side-handled teapot has a carved diamond or mesh pattern called "Amime (網 目)" that is elaborately decorated throughout the body. This is all hand-made from natural clay using the traditional tokoname marbling technique "Nerikomi (clay layering)". "Nerikomi" is a decorative technique in which colored clays are mixed together to create a natural marble appearance. This makes each piece in unique.
In addition, this Kyusu is characterized by its particularly fine, thin-walled and light weight.
Ein Meisterstück von Konishi Kenji (Yusen II), dem Sohn des Gründers von Yusen-Kiln (友 仙 窯), einer führenden Töpferei in Tokoname.
Diese schöne seitlich-Griff Teekanne ist aufwendig mit einem handgeschnitzten Diamantschnittmuster "Amime (網 目)" am ganzen Körper weiterarbeitet. Dies ist alles aus natürlichem Ton nach der traditionellen Tokoname-Marmorierungstechnik "Nerikomi (Tonschichtung)" handgetöpfert. "Nerikomi" ist eine dekorative Technik, bei der farbige Tone miteinander gemischt werden, um ein natürliches Marmor-Erscheinungsbild zu erzielen. Dies macht jedes Stück zum Unikat.
Zudem ist dieser Kyusu besonders fein, dünnwandig und leicht.

Nerikomi - clay layering
Nerikomi is a decorative process established in Japan that involves stacking colored clay and then cutting it through the cross-section to reveal a pattern that can then be used as an applied decoration.
Plates of different clays colored with stains or oxides are stacked, folded, pressed into logs, cut into slices and arranged in a pot. In this way, the numerous stacked layers appear as fine, wavy lines that are embedded in a surrounding color in the finished object.
*Yusen kiln specializes in Nerikomi technique. Another characteristic of them is the thinness, or lightness, of the pottery.
Nerikomi -Tonschichtung
Nerikomi ist ein dekorativer Prozess, der in Japan etabliert wurde und das Stapeln von farbigem Ton und das Anschließende Schneiden durch den Querschnitt beinhaltet, um ein Muster zu enthüllen, das dann als aufgebrachte Dekoration verwendet werden kann.
Verschiedene Tonplatten, die mit Farbstoffen und Oxiden gefärbt sind, werden übereinandergelegt, gebogen und zu einer Klotzmasse verarbeitet, die dann gepresst und für Teekannen in Scheiben geschnitten wird. Auf diese Weise, die zahlreichen gestapelten Schichten erscheinen im fertigen Objekt als feine, in die umgebende Farbe eingebettete Wellenlinien.
*Meister Yusen ist auf Nerikomi-Technik spezialisiert. Ein weiteres Merkmal ist die Dünnheit oder Leichtigkeit der Keramik.
Handgeschnitzte Kyusu wird leichter und es entsteht auch ein lebendigeres Marmormuster.

🔸常滑焼 TOKONAME-YAKI - A tradition of quality
Tokoname (常滑) is located near Chubu International Airport in southern Nagoya, Aichi Prefcture. High quality earthenware has been produced here since the 12th century, and still now, Tokoname is a center of pottery production in Japan.
Tokoname is one of Japan's six most important ancient kiln towns - the others are Bizen (備前), Echizen (越前), Seto (瀬戸), Shigaraki (信楽) and Tanba (丹波) - had the largest output of ceramics of any kiln town in the Edo Period (1600-1868).
In particular, Tokoname used to be the main production site for ceramic water pipes. In modern times, it is known around the world for its ornaments such as tea sets and beckoning cats.
