Award-winning kokeshi doll artist Fumio Tomidokoro skillfully crafted this kokeshi from a single mizuki tree.
The creative kokeshi "Hanazakari", dressed in a beautiful pink kimono, is lavishly decorated with a fine hand-carved floral motifs. A special feature of this beautiful kokeshi is the presence of a sophisticated hairstyle with very long black hair, typical of the noble ladies and princesses of the Heian period (794-1185).
The gentle, cheerful facial expression and the balanced, streamlined form are also reminiscent of the graceful princesses of the classics.

Tomidokoro Fumio (富所 ふみを)
Fumio Tomidokoro, winner of many awards was born in 1948 in Gunma-Machi (today part of Takaaki city). He’s been a kokeshi artist for over 50 years now and serves as the head of the creative kokeshi artist association. He uses the lovely tones of keyaki wood (zelkova) to bring the warmth out of his kokeshi dolls. He compliments that warmth with cute & elegant carvings and decorations, often featuring winer and nature motifs such as wind by using the natural wood pattern and hair carving to match the overall direction of the wood pattern. He sometimes decorates his kokeshi dolls using scarfs of depicting them being wrapped in blanket.

Kokeshi dolls are made from natural wood and handmade by artisans. Though they create the same kokeshi dolls as the product photos, the appearances of them such as colors, shapes, grain, facial expression may be a little different from pictures. Please accept the matter of these slight differences.
