This miniature work is based on the Kano school's painting "Matsu-Taka-Zu" (Hawk and pine tree) which was part of wall and sliding door paintings surrounding the large hall of Nijo-Jo Castle in Kyoto. The painting of a hawk perched on a massive pine tree is the most famous wall painting in the Palace, and incorporates features typical of the Momoyama period of the late 16th century.
The hawks and eagles that inhabit the pine trees are birds of prey that are said to symbolize warriors, and are depicted with a larger and more powerful presence.

Dieses kleiner Byobu basiert auf dem Gemälde der Kano´Schule, "Matsu-Taka-Zu" ("Falke auf Kieferbaum"), das Teil der Wand- und Schiebetürmalereien war, die die großen Saal im Nijo-Jo-Schloss in Kyoto umgaben. Das Gemälde eines Falken, der auf einer massiven Kiefer sitzt, ist das berühmteste Wandgemälde im Palast und enthält typische Merkmale der Momoyama-Zeit des späten 16. Jahrhunderts.
Die in der Kieferböume sitzenden Falken und Adler sind Raubvögel, die Krieger symbolisieren sollen, und wird mit einer größeren und mächtigeren Präsenz dargestellt.
