bachi-KANZASHI, ukiyo-e

- Japanese hair jewellery stick with Hokusai Ukiyo-e motif -

This Yamanaka Lacquerware's Kanzashi collection is decorated with Hokusai's Ukiyoe art, characterised by vivid Japanese colours and bold lines, using the maki-e technique.

The pick used to play the shamisen, a Japanese stringed instrument, is called 'bachi', and the name 'bachi-kanzashi' comes from its resemblance to this shape. The fan-shaped part is offen decorated with watermarks, maki-e and floral patterns, and the shaft is usually split in two.

The ukiyo-e decoration on this Bachi-kanzashi is painted by applying layers of lacquer using a technique known as 'mori-makie style', which creates a three-dimensional effect and changes its brilliance depending on the angle of view, delighting the viewer's eye.

Made of acrylic resin, it is durable and can be used for a long time.

Exclusive boxed with wiping cloth.
