The contrast between black and white and the striking red camellia as colour accents make the piece stand out effectively. The matt black camellia branches are decorated with an unique abstract pattern in Masako Inoue's signature technique "scratch-out". The red camellia adds colour to the plate and gives it a stylish and modern atmosphere.

KAKIOTOSHI (掻き落とし)
"Scratch-out" ("Kakiotoshi" in Japanese) is a painting technique in which black colour is applied with a brush and then scratched with bamboo to create a pattern.
It is more time-consuming than painting with a brush, but the unique style, which is both dynamic and exquisite, is powerful and attractive.
"scratch-out" ("Kakiotoshi" auf japanisch) ist eine Maltechnik, bei der schwarze Farbe mit einem Pinsel aufgetragen und dann mit Bambus gekratzt wird, um ein Muster zu erzeugen.
Sie ist zeitaufwändiger als das Malen mit dem Pinsel, aber der einzigartige Stil, der sowohl dynamisch als auch exquisit ist, ist kraftvoll und attraktiv.

Ms. Masako Inoue is a Kutani ceramic artist who specializes in ceramic works that overwhelm with their accurate and bold depiction, and creates works based on monotone colours, which is rare in Kutani ware.
She has created a unique world view with the use of scrapings along with paint brushes. The charm of her works is the moist, Japanese style of expression in ink painting.
Awarded the Contemporary Crafts Newcomer Prize at the Japan Contemporary Crafts Art Exhibition in 2017.
