This beautiful Yamanaka lacqued sake serving set is referred to as a "toso-ki" (屠蘇器) in Japan. The "Toso" sake set includes a handled sake pot (choshi) and three sets of large, medium, and small sake cups (sakazuki), and an oval formed tray (obon), that can be used for various special occasions such as New Year's. The simple modern design makes it suitable for celebrations, home party or daily use.

 

Originally, "Toso" is a traditional Japanese New Year's ceremonial spiced sake to drive away the evil spirits of the year and to wish for good health for the family. It is made from a mixture of 5 to 10 herbal medicines called "Tososan", which is soaked in sake or mirin (rice wine). The ingredients vary from region to region, and in modern times, sake is often drunk as "Toso". Especially, for toso, gold-dusted sake is a popular celebratory drink.

Das "Toso"-Sake-Set besteht aus einer Sake-Kanne mit Henkel (choshi) und drei Sets mit großen, mittleren und kleinen Sake-Tassen (sakazuki) sowie einem ovalen Tablett (obon), das für verschiedene besondere Anlässe wie das Neujahrsfest verwendet werden kann. Ursprünglich ist "Toso" ein traditioneller japanischer Gewürzer Sake zum Neujahrsfest, um die bösen Geister des Jahres zu vertreiben und der Familie gute Gesundheit zu wünschen. Er wird aus einer Mischung von 5 bis 10 Kräutermitteln namens "Tososan" hergestellt, die in Sake oder Mirin (Reiswein) eingeweicht werden. Die Zutaten variieren von Region zu Region, und in der heutigen Zeit wird der Sake oft als "Toso" getrunken. Insbesondere für Toso ist goldbestäubter Sake ein beliebtes Festtagsgetränk.

This product is made of resin and is light and easy to handle. It is manufactured by Maejyu Shikki, a long-established company of Yamanaka* Lacquerware, which is designated as a traditional national craft, and is available at an affordable price. 

 

*Yamanaka is the largest Urushi ware producing area in Japan, located in Kaga-city of Ishikawa Prefecture which has its urushi production History since late 16th Century.

*Yamanaka ist das größte Produktionsgebiet für Urushi-Ware in Japan und liegt in der Stadt Kaga in der Präfektur Ishikawa, wo die Urushi-Produktion seit dem späten 16.
