An elegant round teapot with an inlaid flower reliefs on the back and in the transition from the lid to the shoulder. Not black, a dark chocolate brown is the base color. It is a very harmonious balance between the bold floral relief and the plain space, creating a beautiful color contrast. 

The artist Kōshō (光松) is a skilful teapot artist in Tokoname Japan. He is a potter and also carver; He does all forming, designing and carving by himself. Normally, in creating such an artistic and intricate decorated kyusu, the artists work together and are responsible for each step of the process.

Made from Tokoname's red natural clay (Japanese: Shudei 朱泥) which particularly enriched with natural iron-oxide. The color turns black during the smoking process (reduction firing) that follows the initial firing process, the black kyusu that undergoes this process is called "Kokudei" 黒泥.

Das Ornament auf dem Rücken und im Übergang von Deckel zur Schulter der Teekanne zeigt ein florales Moment, es sind einlegearbeitete Blumenrelif. Nicht schwarz, ein dunkles Schokoladenbraun ist Grundfarbe. Hergestellt aus Tokoname's rotem Naturton (japanisch: Shudei 朱泥), der besonders mit natürlichem Eisenoxid angereichert ist. Die Farbe wird während des auf den ersten Brennvorgang folgenden Räucherprozesses (Reduktionsbrand) schwarz. Das schwarze Kyusu, das diesen Prozess durchläuft, wird "Kokudei" 黒泥 genannt.

Tokoname (常滑) is located near Chubu International Airport in southern Nagoya, Aichi Prefcture. High quality earthenware has been produced here since the 12th century, and still now, Tokoname is a center of pottery production in Japan.

Tokoname is one of Japan's six most important ancient kiln towns - the others are Bizen (備前), Echizen (越前), Seto (瀬戸), Shigaraki (信楽) and Tanba (丹波) - had the largest output of ceramics of any kiln town in the Edo Period (1600-1868). 

In particular, Tokoname used to be the main production site for ceramic water pipes. In modern times, it is known around the world for its ornaments such as tea sets and beckoning cats.
